Bocuse d'or 2007 - Fenchies Go All The Way !
The 2007 unofficial world championship in high end professional cooking, the Bocuse d'Or ( the golden Bocuse) is in the books. The team from the United States, led by Chef Gavin Kaysen of El Bizcocho at the Rancho Bernardo Inn, did not make the podium in this year's competition, but they performed well. Held Jan. 24-25 in Lyon, France, this was the 20th anniversary for the prestigious competition in Lyon, France. The French team, led by Chef Fabrice Desvignes, was awarded the first place trophy. Second place went to the team from Denmark, led by Chef Fasmus Kofoed, and third place was captured by the Swiss team under the guidance of Chef Frank Giovannini, which is currently the Sous-Chef at the old Freddie Girardets eatery in Crissier.
The Bocuse d'Or, perhaps the most renowned international culinary competition, is held every two years in France with 24 of the technically most proficient Chefs in the world competing for honors. The candidates, with only five hours to prepare their platters, must perform before thousands of cheering fans and journalists. Kaysen will hold the United States title until 2009.
